"In the chapelry of Whittington is Crookbarrow Hill, one of the largest tumuli (supposed) in England".
Noakes Guide to Worcestershire 1868.

A significant inspiration for this initiative is The Crookbarrow: a numinous tumulus and scheduled ancient monument, on the edge of the City of Worcester.

The setting for The Crookbarrow is an equally iconic historic English landscape, now permeated by suburbanisation, a city bypass road, and the M5 motorway.

The Crookbarrow is an excellent location for horizon scanning.

This fine landscape setting is depicted in Henry Harris Lines's 1843
painting of "Worcester from Crookbarrow Hill", part of the Government Art Collection.

Crookbarrow provides process consulting and communications services to support sustainable planning at both the programme and project level.

Specific contexts for such work include:
• Spatial strategy development
• Area regeneration initiatives
• Project (portfolio) appraisals

A core part of the Crookbarrow mission is to ensure that Alternative Scenarios and Options are fully acknowledged and explored by clients, through appropriate decision-making structures, such as Horizon Scanning and strategic risk management.

The Principal Consultant of Crookbarrow is Janet Mackinnon MA MSc. Janet has been working for sustainable area regeneration and environmental limits to growth since 1985, primarily as an independent practitioner.

The Main Services of Crookbarrow are:

Process Consulting: A term most often linked with the work of Professor Edgar H Schein and his publications on "Process Consultation"*, Janet’s interpretation of "process" also draws upon the wider scope of Dr Arnold Mindell's "Process Orientated Psychology".

Communications Work: A better understanding and deployment of language and associated 'structures' (organisational, media etc) is the aim here, and avoidance of management practices associated with reality distortions, including unnecessary jargon and 'group-think'.

Crookbarrow is particularly interested in working with consultancies and other organisations involved in the use of:
• Economic Forecasting
• Sustainability Appraisal
• Environmental Assessment

In addition to the above Crookbarrow, also conducts research and development work around the themes of depth psychology, deep ecology and sustainability.
